Getting Started

AfterProof is a home inventory app for renters and homeowners. It helps you document everything you own — room by room — so you're prepared if you ever need to file an insurance claim.

Most people don't realize how hard it is to remember everything they own after a fire, flood, or theft. AfterProof solves that by letting you build a complete, photo-backed record of your belongings before anything goes wrong.

Who uses it?Renters, homeowners, landlords, and anyone who wants to be ready for the unexpected.

Getting started takes just a few minutes:

  • Create your account and complete the quick onboarding
  • Add your first room — tap + on the home screen and choose a room type
  • Start adding items to that room by taking photos or uploading from your gallery
  • Use AI Identify to automatically fill in item details and estimated values

We recommend starting with your most valuable rooms first — living room, bedroom, and kitchen.

  • Free — unlimited items and rooms, 1 property, 3 photos per item, PDF export, and 10 AI credits to get you started. Great for documenting your essentials.
  • Premium ($3.99/mo or $35.99/yr) — everything in Free, plus unlimited photos per item, unlimited properties, 25 AI credits every month, and a one-time bonus of 50 extra credits when you first upgrade.
Best value tipAnnual plans save 25% compared to monthly — that's about 3 months free.
Rooms & Items

Rooms are how you organize your inventory by location. Think of them as the physical spaces in your home — Living Room, Kitchen, Master Bedroom, Garage, etc.

To create a room, tap + on the home screen, choose a room type, and give it a name. Then you can start adding items to it.

Pro tipCreate all your rooms first before adding items — it makes organizing much faster.

Room = where the item lives. Living Room, Kitchen, Bedroom.

Category = what the item is. Electronics, Furniture, Appliances, Clothing & Accessories, Jewelry & Watches, Art & Collectibles, Sports & Outdoor Gear, Tools & Equipment, Other.

For example: your TV is in the Living Room (room) and belongs to Electronics (category). Your sofa is also in the Living Room but belongs to Furniture.

Categories are important because your PDF export can be organized by category, and they affect how depreciation is calculated for insurance purposes.

Open a room and tap Add Item. You have two options:

  • Single item — take a photo or choose from your gallery, then use AI Identify or fill in details manually.
  • Bulk upload — take multiple photos at once and review them all in a queue. Great for documenting an entire room quickly.

Every item must be associated with a room. If you need to move an item to a different room later, just open the item and edit the room field.

Fastest methodUse bulk upload and walk around the room photographing everything. Then sit down and use AI Identify on each item in the review queue.

The Free plan allows 3 photos per item. Premium allows unlimited photos per item.

For insurance purposes, we recommend at least 2–3 photos per valuable item: one showing the full item, one showing the brand or model label, and one showing any serial number if applicable.

AI Identify

Tap the AI ✦ button on any item and AfterProof analyzes the photo to identify what the item is. It then searches for matching products and shows you a ranked list of results with current prices from real retailers.

Tap the best match in the list and the item name, brand, model, and estimated replacement value are filled in automatically.

Even if a price or exact product match isn't found, the AI still captures whatever it can — brand, model, category, and item description. No credit is wasted on a blank result.

Each result includes a View link to the retailer listing — tap it to see more photos, full specs, or verify the price, especially useful when the AI result has limited details.

Best resultsTake clear, well-lit photos against a neutral background. Include the brand label in the shot when possible.

Each time you use AI Identify on an item, it uses 1 AI credit. Here's what each plan includes:

  • Free — 10 credits to get you started. These are one-time credits; they don't reset monthly.
  • Premium — 25 credits every month, refreshed on your billing date. Plus, the first time you upgrade, you get a one-time bonus of 50 extra credits.

If you run out, you can buy additional credit packs at any time. Purchased credits never expire and stack on top of your plan credits. Monthly credits are used first, then bonus credits, then purchased credits.

Yes. Go to your Profile and tap Buy More on the credits display, or tap the credits display on any page. Four packs are available:

  • 10 credits — $1.49
  • 30 credits — $3.99
  • 75 credits — $7.99 (most popular)
  • 150 credits — $12.99

Purchased credits never expire and carry over month to month.

Scroll through all the match options in the list — sometimes the best match isn't the first result. If none of the matches are right, you can skip them and enter the item details manually.

For best AI results:

  • Make sure the item is clearly visible and in focus
  • Include the brand name or logo in the photo
  • Use good lighting — avoid dark or blurry photos
  • Photograph the item straight-on, not at an extreme angle
Insurance & Values

Replacement Cost Value (RCV) is what it would cost to buy the same item new today. This is the value AfterProof's AI finds from current retailer prices.

Actual Cash Value (ACV) is RCV minus depreciation — what the item is worth today considering its age and condition. This is typically what older insurance policies pay out.

Example: You bought a laptop 5 years ago for $1,200. Today it would cost $1,000 new (RCV). But after 5 years of depreciation, its ACV might be around $500 — and that's all a basic policy would pay.

Check your policyIf you have RCV coverage, you're entitled to the full replacement cost. If you have ACV coverage, depreciation applies. Contact your insurance agent if you're unsure.

AfterProof pulls real-time prices from major retailers to give you current replacement values. These are estimated values for documentation purposes — not official appraisals.

For everyday items like electronics, appliances, and furniture, the estimates are generally quite accurate. For specialty items like jewelry, art, antiques, or collectibles, we recommend getting a professional appraisal and entering that value manually.

You can always override any AI-generated value by editing the item directly.

You set your coverage type during onboarding. You can change it anytime in your Profile settings.

Choose Replacement Cost if your policy covers the cost to replace items new. Choose Actual Cash Value if your policy pays out based on current depreciated value. If you're not sure, check your insurance policy declarations page or ask your agent.

Your coverage type affects which values are displayed throughout the app and on your PDF export.

PDF Export

Tap the Export button on the home screen. You can export your inventory organized by room, by category, or as a complete list of all items.

Each item in the PDF includes its photo, name, estimated value, category, and any notes you've added. You can then share the PDF directly to your insurance agent, save it to cloud storage, or email it to yourself.

What's insideEvery export includes an RCV/ACV breakdown, room-by-room summary, and category totals — everything your agent needs to review your coverage.

Yes — after generating your PDF, tap Share and choose any app to send it. You can email it directly, share via text, save to iCloud Drive or Google Drive, or AirDrop it.

The PDF is formatted to be professional and easy for agents to read — each item has a photo, description, and value clearly laid out.

Subscription & Billing

Go to your Profile and tap Subscription. From there you can choose monthly or annual billing. Annual plans save 25% — about 3 months free.

Your upgrade takes effect immediately — you'll have access to all Premium features right away, plus your one-time bonus of 50 extra AI credits.

Your data is never deleted when you downgrade. If your account has more than the Free plan allows — for example, more than one property, or items with more than 3 photos — that content becomes view-only: you can still see and export everything, but you can't add to or edit it.

You can reduce your inventory to fit within Free limits, or re-subscribe at any time to restore full access. Any unused purchased credits stay on your account.

If we ever change subscription prices, existing subscribers are notified at least 30 days before any increase takes effect — and we aim to keep existing subscribers at their original rate whenever we can.

AfterProof subscriptions are managed through the App Store. To cancel, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone and cancel from there.

Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. Your data remains in your account on the Free plan unless you choose to delete your account.

Privacy & Security

Yes. Your data is stored securely with encryption at rest and in transit. Only you can access your inventory — we never sell your data, and we only share it with the service providers needed to run the app (like our cloud storage and AI providers). See our Privacy Policy for the full list.

Photos and item data are stored in your private account and are never visible to other users.

You can request account deletion from within the app under Profile → Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing us at support@useafterproof.com.

Deleting your account permanently removes your inventory, photos, and account records. This action cannot be undone. A limited record of your legal agreement acceptances is retained for compliance purposes, as described in our Privacy Policy.
