Find answers to common questions about using AfterProof to document and protect your home.
AfterProof is a home inventory app for renters and homeowners. It helps you document everything you own — room by room — so you're prepared if you ever need to file an insurance claim.
Most people don't realize how hard it is to remember everything they own after a fire, flood, or theft. AfterProof solves that by letting you build a complete, photo-backed record of your belongings before anything goes wrong.
Getting started takes just a few minutes:
We recommend starting with your most valuable rooms first — living room, bedroom, and kitchen.
Rooms are how you organize your inventory by location. Think of them as the physical spaces in your home — Living Room, Kitchen, Master Bedroom, Garage, etc.
To create a room, tap + on the home screen, choose a room type, and give it a name. Then you can start adding items to it.
Room = where the item lives. Living Room, Kitchen, Bedroom.
Category = what the item is. Electronics, Furniture, Appliances, Clothing & Accessories, Jewelry & Watches, Art & Collectibles, Sports & Outdoor Gear, Tools & Equipment, Other.
For example: your TV is in the Living Room (room) and belongs to Electronics (category). Your sofa is also in the Living Room but belongs to Furniture.
Categories are important because your PDF export can be organized by category, and they affect how depreciation is calculated for insurance purposes.
Open a room and tap Add Item. You have two options:
Every item must be associated with a room. If you need to move an item to a different room later, just open the item and edit the room field.
Free plan allows 3 photos per item. Basic and Premium plans allow unlimited photos per item.
For insurance purposes, we recommend at least 2–3 photos per valuable item: one showing the full item, one showing the brand or model label, and one showing any serial number if applicable.
Tap the AI ✦ button on any item and AfterProof analyzes the photo to identify what the item is. It then searches for matching products and shows you up to 7 results with current prices from real retailers.
Swipe to pick the best match and the item name, brand, model, and estimated replacement value are filled in automatically.
Even if a price or exact product match isn't found, the AI still captures whatever it can — brand, model, category, and item description. No credit is wasted on a blank result.
Each match card includes a View link to the retailer listing — tap it to see more photos, full specs, or verify the price, especially useful when the AI result has limited details.
Each time you use AI Identify on an item, it uses 1 AI credit. Your plan includes a monthly credit allocation that resets on your billing date:
If you run out, you can buy additional credit packs at any time. Purchased credits never expire and stack on top of your monthly allocation. Monthly credits are always used first.
Yes. Go to your Profile and tap Buy More on the credits display, or tap the credits display on any page. Four packs are available:
Purchased credits never expire and carry over month to month.
Swipe through all the match options — sometimes the best match isn't the first result. If none of the matches are right, you can dismiss them all and enter the item details manually.
For best AI results:
Replacement Cost Value (RCV) is what it would cost to buy the same item new today. This is the value AfterProof's AI finds from current retailer prices.
Actual Cash Value (ACV) is RCV minus depreciation — what the item is worth today considering its age and condition. This is typically what older insurance policies pay out.
Example: You bought a laptop 5 years ago for $1,200. Today it would cost $1,000 new (RCV). But after 5 years of depreciation, its ACV might be around $500 — and that's all a basic policy would pay.
AfterProof pulls real-time prices from major retailers to give you current replacement values. These are estimated values for documentation purposes — not official appraisals.
For everyday items like electronics, appliances, and furniture, the estimates are generally quite accurate. For specialty items like jewelry, art, antiques, or collectibles, we recommend getting a professional appraisal and entering that value manually.
You can always override any AI-generated value by editing the item directly.
You set your coverage type during onboarding. You can change it anytime in your Profile settings.
Choose Replacement Cost if your policy covers the cost to replace items new. Choose Actual Cash Value if your policy pays out based on current depreciated value. If you're not sure, check your insurance policy declarations page or ask your agent.
Your coverage type affects which values are displayed throughout the app and on your PDF export.
Tap the Export button on the home screen. You can export your inventory organized by room, by category, or as a complete list of all items.
Each item in the PDF includes its photo, name, estimated value, category, and any notes you've added. You can then share the PDF directly to your insurance agent, save it to cloud storage, or email it to yourself.
Free and Basic plan PDFs include an AfterProof watermark. Premium plan exports are watermark-free — ideal for sharing with your insurance agent or keeping on file.
Upgrade to Premium to remove the watermark from all exports.
Yes — after generating your PDF, tap Share and choose any app to send it. You can email it directly, share via text, save to iCloud Drive or Google Drive, or AirDrop it.
The PDF is formatted to be professional and easy for agents to read — each item has a photo, description, and value clearly laid out.
Go to your Profile and tap Subscription. From there you can choose Basic or Premium and select monthly or annual billing. Annual plans save 25%.
Your upgrade takes effect immediately — you'll have access to all features of your new plan right away.
Your data is never deleted when you downgrade. If you go over the item or room limit of your new plan, your account enters a view-only grace period — you can still see and export everything, but you won't be able to add new items until you're back within the limits.
You have 30 days to reduce your inventory or upgrade again before any restrictions apply.
No. Your subscription price is locked in at the rate you signed up at. If we ever increase prices for new subscribers, existing subscribers are always grandfathered at their original rate.
AfterProof subscriptions are managed through the App Store. To cancel, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone and cancel from there.
Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. Your data remains in your account on the Free plan unless you choose to delete your account.
Yes. Your data is stored securely with encryption at rest and in transit. Only you can access your inventory — we never share your data with third parties.
Photos and item data are stored in your private account and are never visible to other users.
You can request account deletion from within the app under Profile → Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing us at support@useafterproof.com.
Deleting your account permanently removes all your data, photos, and inventory records. This action cannot be undone.
